Private Security Legislation Becomes Law in Alabama
The Alabama legislature passed and the governor signed a bill providing for licensing and regulation of contract security companies and officers in the state. Currently there are no federal laws regulating private security. Alabama was one of only ten states that did not regulate the private security industry. States that have regulatory requirements for security officers do not generally allow security officers from un-regulated states to serve within their boundaries (reciprocity). The new law will mandate minimum training levels for security officers, and will provide a means for comprehensive criminal background checks t be performed on security officers working in Alabama.
