1969 - DSI Security was formed
DSI was founded in 1969 by Sheriff A.B. Clark of Houston County, Alabama in response to a request for
security at the construction of the nearby Farley Nuclear Plant
1977 - Alan Clark becomes president
Upon graduation from the University of Alabama in 1977, Alan Clark, son of founder A.B. Clark, moved back to Dothan to run DSI Security Services. At that time, DSI was a small company with a handful of clients.
1979 - DSI attends ASIS Conference
Alan Clark joined ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security) and attended his first ASIS Conference in New Orleans. 1979 was also the year DSI moved into its first real office space in Dothan and also acquired a janitorial service, offering this service to clients along with security
Sheriff A.B. Clark retired from law enforcement after serving 16 years as Houston County Alabama sheriff. A.B. brought his vast experience to DSI full time, joining his son Alan in the business. DSI began growing its footprint in the security industry by opening a second branch in Albany, GA.
DSI relocated its corporate office to its present location in Dothan.
DSI continued its expansion in the security industry by opening its third branch office in Miami, FL.
A.B. passed away leaving the company and its management to his son Alan.
DSI continued to grow its operating base in the southeast by opening another branch office in Key West, FL, now taking the total number of branch offices to eight. As the company grew, so did the corporate office out of necessity and DSI created a corporate accounting department for the company.
DSI opened a branch office in Jackson, MS, and after acquiring another security company in Montgomery, AL, opened a branch office there as well.
DSI continued expansion by adding a branch office in Knoxville, TN.
DSI continued to diversify in the security industry with the purchase of an electronics company, enabling the company to offer its customers a “one-stop shop” for their security needs. The electronics division has grown to be a large part of DSI’s business, as well as a competitive presence throughout the southeast.
DSI showed impressive growth this year by opening three new branches in Texas and Arkansas.
DSI acquired a security company in Tampa and opened a branch office there
DSI continued to grow its customer base by unveiling two more branch offices in Nebraska and Illinois.
2009 was a milestone year for DSI as they celebrated 40 years of operations and growth in the security industry. Within 40 years DSI grew to be a leading national provider of a variety of security services including security officers, electronic security, and security consulting.
2010 presented another milestone year for DSI when Alan’s wife, Marty, joined Alan and their three children at DSI as the new president of the company. DSI was now truly a family owned and managed company, one that embraced the values and principles instilled by A.B. many years earlier. These values continue to be evident in every aspect and level of company operations.
The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) granted DSI certification as a woman-
owned and managed company.
